WHO WE ARE

The U.S. Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board (Board) is an independent federal agency in the executive branch of the U.S. Federal Government. The Board's purpose is to perform independent technical and scientific peer review of the U.S. Department of Energy's activities related to managing and disposing of high-level radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel.  The Board reports its findings & recommendations to Congress and the Secretary of Energy.

Board Letter to U.S. Congress and Secretary of Energy - Nuclear Waste Management Program (March 18, 2025)

The Board provides a letter summarizing a small number of broad observations on a successful program for managing the nation’s spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste. The Board presents its observations to the Congress and the Secretary of Energy in formal terms as a finding, two conclusions, and a recommendation. Additional information supporting the bases for these points is provided in an attachment to the letter.
