Press Release

The U.S. Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board’s Panel on the Waste Management System will meet in Salt Lake City, Utah on Wednesday, October 13, and Thursday, October 14, 2004. The panel will discuss issues related to planning for the potential transportation of spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste to a proposed repository at Yucca Mountain in Nevada.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, May 18 and 19, 2004, the U.S. Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board (Board) will hold its spring meeting in Washington, D.C. The meeting will focus on research and views on the potential for corrosion of waste packages during the “thermal pulse,” the period of approximately 1,000 years after closure when temperatures would be above boiling inside a repository for high-level radioactive waste planned for Yucca Mountain in Nevada.
Members of the U.S. Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board’s Panel on the Engineered Barrier System and Panel on the Waste Management System will meet in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Tuesday, January 20, and Wednesday, January 21, 2004, respectively. The panels will discuss issues related to the proposed repository at Yucca Mountain in Nevada, including design of the engineered system and information needed as the Department of Energy (DOE) plans a system for transporting high-level radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel to the proposed repository.
On Tuesday, September 16, and for a half day on Wednesday, September 17, 2003, the U.S. Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board (Board) will meet in Amargosa Valley, Nevada. The Board will discuss U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) work related to the natural features of a possible repository for the disposal of spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste.
The Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board (Board) has released a report summarizing its major activities from January 1, 2002, to December 31, 2002. Report to the U.S. Congress and the Secretary of Energy discusses the Board’s evaluation of the technical basis of the Department of Energy’s (DOE) work related to analyzing a planned repository site at Yucca Mountain in Nevada.
The Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board (Board) has released a report summarizing its major activities from January 1, 2001, to January 31, 2002. Report to the U.S. Congress and the Secretary of Energy also discusses issues related to the Board’s technical and scientific evaluation of the technical basis of the Department of Energy’s (DOE) work related to a Yucca Mountain site recommendation.
On Tuesday, January 29, and Wednesday, January 30, 2002, the Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board (Board) will hold a meeting in Pahrump, Nevada, to discuss the status of U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) efforts to characterize a site at Yucca Mountain, Nevada, as the possible location of a permanent repository for spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste.
On Thursday, July 19, and Friday morning, July 20, 2001, the Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board (Board) will host a workshop in Arlington, Virginia. The workshop will focus on issues related to long-term (thousands of years) extrapolation of the corrosion resistance of waste package materials being proposed by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for use in a potential Yucca Mountain repository.
