Report to the U.S. Congress and the Secretary of Energy (September 2008)
Between March 1, 2006, and December 31, 2007, the period covered by this report, the Board focused its evaluation on five critical technical issues dealing with pre-closure operations of the waste management system and on six critical technical issues dealing with post-closure performance of the proposed Yucca Mountain repository. The Board also explored in depth the crosscutting issue of thermal management. The Board’s views on these issues are summarized below and are explained in greater detail in the body of this report.
